TIME LOG
GROUP HOURS:
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE
|
We started out the day getting to eat lunch as a class at the local Red Barn. It was great to get some good food in our stomachs before working around so much blood! I was assigned kitchen duty for the day. We made turkey and ham sandwiches with a choice of cheese and mayo, and cookies. Juice or water was also an option we provided.
It was great to meet all those that donated as they came through our station. I loved experiencing the atmosphere of giving, both of the donators, and of myself with my time |
CHISHOLM TRAIL PREPARATION
|
Our class met up first thing in the morning to load a bus to downtown Caldwell. We were met by the city workers who handed us various tools and told us to get to work. We cleaned the sidewalks with brooms, raked the rock bed of all the leaves, and used shovels to put in new mulch. The gazebo needed clean up for the upcoming Chisholm Trail Festival. The town was getting spruced up for the big celebration. It was a very cold, rainy, and wet morning but we got a lot done! It was a great bonding experience with my classmates and we made a real difference in the appearance of the grounds. |
CALDWELL SCHOOLS WELLNESS NIGHT
|
We were asked as a class to come and be leaders of the annual Caldwel Elementary School wellness night. This is the week before school starts. Coach Blosser came up with the idea of wellness night to get the kids to interact with their classmates and get them back into the flow of school. I chose to be apart of the dodgeball game in the grade school gym. There was a large turnout of kids and we had a great time getting to know them all! |
INDIVIDUAL HOURS:
QUATERMANIA FUNDRAISER
|
I was made aware of this benefit by Marcie York. She contacted me asking for help with her fundraiser . Money was being raised for a sick classmate of hers. For the Quartermania my friends and I helped with moving the items being sold up to the front. We also ran around collecting the quarter baskets filled with people’s bets for every item. Going into this I had little knowledge of what this event actually was but it was a fun experience and it was for a charity! I had a great time working with fellow classmates. I learned what a great community we have by seeing how we come together when needed. The best part of the experience was getting to meet new people. Carrying around heavy tables was my least favorite part of the day. Being a part of this made me want to live in a small community in the future, where everyone is made to feel like family. |
SOCCER FIELDS PREPARATION
|
I was contacted by Coach Blosser to come down to the Soccer fields and help him get them ready for the coming season. He told me to come down after track practice and again on an early release day. We started out painting lines for the soccer fields. Once we had all the fields outlined, we then had to paint the inner lines. It was very hot! Though this was tough work, it was a great experience and for the kids! I learned that there is a lot of prep work that goes into getting a soccer field ready. I enjoyed working with friends, but did not enjoy the very high temperatures. I will look at games in the future with thoughts of the behind the scene staff and their prep work. |
PLAY DAY WITH CES
|
I was presented with a chance to help with Caldwell Elementary School play day. Coach Blosser allowed me to come down to the track and help him get organized and also helped with the finish line for the races. Later, a few of us were assigned to the softball throw. I checked them in and then helped with measuring their throws and eventually finding a winner. I loved Play Day as a kid, and I was happy to help with this event. I hope Coach Blosser will let me help one last time this year! |
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE
|
This was my second time working the blood drive for Red Cross. I had enjoyed volunteering for them previously in the winter and when I heard there was another opportunity to be apart of their blood drive, I signed up. This time I was there for set-up, as well as kitchen duty. I think by now, I can make a pretty good sandwich for anyone! As always, it was great to see all the people donating and spend time with my friends. |
